从10月24日开始，我们在上海最古老的区域——老西门的老城区探索，穿过往日的颓废，寻找蕴藏着可能性的未来。沿着黄浦江的岸边散步，我们穿过一层层年深日久的河面，翻阅着河面上留下的波浪痕迹。

上海的真实身份隐藏于几十年的拆迁与重建中。我们不是为了怀旧：这是一个个包含着关键转变和机会的、不可避免的、创造性的过程。在这座城市的灯火背后隐藏着一个复杂的身份，三年来，我们的工作坊一直努力想要理解它并且丰富它。我们从这些无意义、无价值的事物出发，去映射城市发展的复杂，并在过去和未来之间创造可以共享故事的对话。

我们从那些被遗弃的物件、被遗忘的事物、残渣碎片等形成文化的原材料中获得灵感，继而去探索有关城市变迁和弹性文化轨迹的故事。这一次，我们找到了一些关于这个城市的商业和工业的影子，一些工厂的景色变迁，一些丰富了历史的工业，一些为这个城市的文化和物质繁荣作出贡献的品牌。当我们在现在与过去的边界来回游荡时，有多少的现实和转变可以让我们观察或发现，亦或是欣赏？

但我们不局限于此，通过对这些媒体的制作，我们叙述和展现了在这历史长河中斑驳繁乱的波澜，以及在这波澜之下海纳百川的文化交融。

这是些可以嵌入文化视野的媒介。通过基于未来的产出，我们旨在利用这些媒介和设计工具以聚焦在信息的本质和质量之上，从而映射出保护和开创之间的矛盾，并使用城市发展之下文化交融的环境作为新的设计语言，打破传统美学的束缚。

We started on October 24th exploring the Laoximen area, navigating the oldest part of the city across the past and its decadence, and the landmarks of the futureand its opulence. We walked along the shores of Huangpu crossing layers of years reading through the traces left by the river waves.Shanghai identity lies in the continue state of demolition and reconstruction, since decades. There is no space for nostalgy: we ackwnoledge that it is an inevitable and creative process which embed critical transformations as well as opportunities. There is a complex identity behind the shining lights of the city: for three years the studio has been trying to read through and beyond.

As every year, we start from the inspiration of simple, accidentally discovered objects –apparently without meaning and use - to reflect upon the complexity of the urban change, and to create conversations between the past and the future in search of meaningful messages to be shared.We have been looking for abandoned objects, things that have been forgotten, leftover, fragments, items from the material culture that could inspire us to search for deeper stories within the urban change and traces of cultural resilience. This time, we found traces and shadow of the commercial and industrial identity of the city, the factories of the landscape, the industries that flourished over the history, the brand that contributed to the material and cultural prosperity of the city.How many layers of reality and transformation can we observe, or discover, or appreciate, when we invest time in wandering around, crossing the discontinued boundaries between old and new?

Through the crafting of our media, we developed design imaginary that goes beyond describing the disruption of urban change, and instead they address and display its complexity and intrinsic transculturality.These are media that embed a culturalvision. By producing outcomes for the future, we aim to use media and design tools to focus on the nature and the quality of the messages, to reflect on the contradiction between preservation and innovation, and disrupt the constraint of the aesthetics, using instead the transcultural environment of urban development as a stage where new (design) languages can occur.
