The 2024 Paris Design Week, commencing September 5th, will feature the China Creative Pavilion—a permanent venue co-organized by Tongji University and Paris Design Week. As one of the official FACTORY events, the Pavilion will be a platform to showcase original Chinese design.

The launch ceremony for the 2024 Paris Design Week China Creative Pavilion took place at Tongji University College of Design and Innovation(D&I) on July 5th. The event unveiled the pavilion's logo and inaugural posters, alongside an in-depth presentation of the exhibition's theme and venue design. The ceremony introduced the 9 independent designers and 11 participating brands, with Mr. Franck Millot, Director of Partnership and Special Events of MAISON & OBJET and Director of Paris Design Week, delivering a keynote address. Prof. Lou Yongqi, Vice President of Tongji University and Chief Curator, Prof. Hu Fei, Dean of D&I representing the organizer, along with Chief Planner, participating designers, representatives from participating brands and media attended the launch ceremony.

Chinese Way of Beauty, the theme of the exhibition this year, will showcase the original design from China in three dimensions, Models, Methods, and Forms. Hopefully, this event, coinciding with the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France, will contribute more possibilities to the cultural exchange between China and France, through the prestigious design and art event, Paris Design Week.

The exhibition will be co-curated by Prof. Lou Yongqi, Ms. Sonia Su, Brand Director of MAISON&OBJET China Design Award, Representative of the Paris Design Week China Strategic Cooperation Project, and Mr. Song Tao, Director of the Yuan Museum, Chief Curator of the Chinese Pavilion at the London Design Biennale 2023, with Mr. Raphael Kao as Chief Planner.

Tongji University, a leading force in Chinese design, will collaborate with designers and brands to present the originality of Chinese design on a global stage. The exhibition includes 10 works from Tongji D&I faculty members. 

This marks Tongji University's second appearance at Paris Design Week, following multiple participations in the Milan Design Week. Dean Prof. Hu Fei anticipates further international exposure for student and faculty designs.
