Recently, students of Tongji University College of Design and Innovation (D&I) have won notable awards from a number of both domestic and international design competitions.
The team led by D&I graduate student Yang Mengshi won the only Gold Award in Footwear Category in the Global Sportswear Design Award (GSDA). Their work “Triassic” water tracing and hiking shoes are designed for flexibility to switch between land and water scenes.
An interdisciplinary team led by D&I graduate student Zheng Qingyun won a “Future Star Award”In Goldreed Industrial Design Award.
The winning work VirtX is a collaborative project between Tongji University and the Institute of Software, Chinese Academy of Sciences, aiming to explore the potential of full-body haptic garments as the next generation of extended reality devices. By using electrotactile rendering technology combined with an innovative multi-layer weaving structure, VirtX achieves full-body virtual haptic feedback with a resolution of up to 1mm in the form of ultra-light weight garments. This breakthrough opens up new possibilities in education, entertainment, healthcare, and beyond.
D&I undergraduate Wu You won a Red Dot Award with her work Focus - a design of hearing aid system based on eye-tracking device.
Focus is an intelligent hearing aid system that addresses the 'resistance phase' during usage adjustment. lt uses eye tracking to locate sound sources, helping users focus on a single sound in challenging multi-person environments, and visually identifying the speaker to focus on their voice.Focus also offers language recovery training and community-based support, prioritising the wearing and rehabilitation experience.
