2019 Tongji University International Design Workshop on Future Community Design ×Technology×Operation was Successfully Held

The 2019 Tongji University International Design Workshop was successfully held from August 12 to 24, 2019. More than 100 students from 11 universities and colleges located in Shanghai, Hunan and Hainan, together with experts, scholars, designers, investors and community representatives took part in this workshop. The workshop focused on 7 interdisciplinary topics and organized more than 10 workshops, 5 lectures and several field visits.  


The theme of this workshop was Interdisciplinary | Design-driven Innovation of Future Community: Design × Technology × Operation, which ventured to explore creative total solutions for comprehensive topics such as technology, arts, space, media and society in the current age of China via breaking the walls of different disciplines (Design, Interaction, Media, Service, Space, etc.). The 7 interdisciplinary topic groups were Circular/Zero Carbon Community, Community New Retail, Urban Farming, Future Community Transportation, Future City Entertainment, New Homestay, Future Community Landscape. The groups explored the basic unit of future lifestyle——future community through rethinking the space formation, new tech application and interaction, service and business model system of community through design-driven and inter-disciplinary methods.


The workshop was a top-level international design workshop co-hosted by Tongji University College of Design and Innovation, Tongji University Architecture Design (Group) Co., Ltd. and Tongji University College of Arts and Media, carried out by Tongji University College of Design and Innovation Life Long Learning Center, advised by Yangpu District Xinjiangwancheng Street Office and supported by various labs such as Tongji-MIT Shanghai City Science Lab.
