Su Yunsheng

 

As a Doctor of Urban Planning and registered planner, he is good at interdisciplinary, cross-scale artificial intelligence city planning and innovative design of urban interior intelligent space products and service systems. He participated in the planning and design of Shanghai World Expo 2010. He also participated in the conceptual planning of Beijing Municipal Administrative Center in Tongzhou, Beijing, the protection and development planning of many historic villages and towns, including six towns in the south of the Yangtze River, and the planning projects in nearly 10 international cities in Angola, Zambia and Russia. He was invited many times to give a lecture on future smart city innovation at the mayors and directors’ training courses in Shanghai and Beijing, global TED, Tencent WE Conference, CCTV “One Person, One World” program and other occasions. He works as an innovation mentor in the innovation incubator of Tongji University and many institutions and companies.

Profile

Su Yunsheng graduated from Tongji University in Shanghai, where he majored in Urban Planning. He is working in Shanghai Tongji Urban Planning & Design Institute. He specializes in urban and regional conceptual planning, urban design, and historic preservation planning from a multidisciplinary perspective. He has participated in urban planning projects in more than 50 cities in mainland China and planning and design projects in developing countries and cities, e.g. Angola, Russia, Vietnam and Zambia. From 2005 to 2010, as a core member of the Chief Planners Team, he participated in the whole planning process of Shanghai World Expo 2010, led the planning of the World Expo village, and acted as a theme interpretation consultant for the World Expo Theme Pavilion. During the World Expo and the opening and closing ceremonies of the event, he was invited to host the World Expo live streaming program of CCTV4 and CCTV9 as a guest. In recent years, his planning research focused on intelligent hybrid development of high-density downtowns. His works include Guangzhou Financial Town and Fuzhou Sanjiangkou Headquarters Base, etc.

 

In 2005, he participated in the publication of the Urban Wisdom Advancing with China Magazine. He systematically studied the phenomena and problems in the process of rapid urbanization in China by means of city-themed spatial and temporal diagrammatizing. He has taught urban innovation courses for the mayors and directors’ classes and EMBA classes of National Academy of Governance, the Ministry of Construction, Shanghai Pudong Executive Leadership Academy, and Tongji University for many years. Meanwhile, he directed the international student work camps of Tongji University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, AA School of Architecture, University of Hong Kong, Bauhaus University, University of Dammstein, Aalto University and other internationally renowned universities to promote interdisciplinary urban innovation.

 

In the beginning of 2006, he founded Etopia Company based on the patented technology of the Eizhu building system. Since then, he has treated the company as a platform to work with young professional leaders of Tongji University to promote the industrialization of China’s intelligent ecological housing in the context of informatization, and been committed to the integrated design innovation of “built in China” and “made in China”. His original solid architectural works related to intelligent construction were displayed in the China-Belgium “Architectural Utopia” exhibition, Shenzhen-Hong Kong Biennale (2007, 2011, 2013), Western China International Fair in Chengdu (2009) and other exhibition events. He was invited to give a keynote speech at international forums in South Korea, Denmark, the Netherlands, Malaysia, Brazil, and Russia, etc. In 2014, he was invited to give a speech titled “the next generation of buildings and cities” at the Global TED Conference as the only Chinese speaker. In 2015, he was invited to give a lecture titled “the next generation of cities” during CCTV’s “One Person, One World” program.

In November 2008, the comprehensive planning scheme for the “Baltic Pearl” project in St. Petersburg, Russia won the second prize of excellent urban and rural planning and design in Shanghai in 2007 (awarded by Shanghai Urban Planning Trade Association)

In July 2009, the conceptual design for a six-star hotel in Zhongguancun, Beijing won the third prize for the scheme category in the 8th Shanghai (International) Young Architects’ Design Show (awarded by Shanghai Exploration and Design Trade Association)

In December 2009, the planning of Shanghai World Expo Park won the optimum prize of the second (2009) China Environmental Art Award (planning category) (awarded by the Environmental Art Committee of China Construction Culture and Art Association

In October 2010, received an Honorary Certificate of Honor in Terms of Special Contribution to the World Expo awarded by Wang Qishan and Yu Zhengsheng jointly

On November 23, 2011, the Expo Park Simulated Evaluation and Layout Derivation Technology Innovation and Planning Application won the first prize of Shanghai Science and Technology Award.
