The First World Innovation Entrepreneurship EXPO Opened

On May 19th, with the support from the Ministry of Science and Technology and Shanghai Municipal Government, and within the framework of Pujiang Innovation Forum, the First World Innovation Entrepreneurship EXPO (WIEE)initiated and hosted by Tongji University was opened in Jiading Campus. The Expo will last for a period of one year.


The one year Expo is comprised of 5 major programs, “WIEE Opening Week”, “Innovation & Entrepreneurship Summer Vacation Carnival”, “Global Future Theme Weeks”, “Innovation & Entrepreneurship Theme Exhibition”, and "Pujiang Forum Series".


The Expo united over 100 cities, colleges, enterprises and organizations from home and abroad.The 111-container exhibition presents the latest achievements in global innovation, entrepreneurship, innovation and creativity.


A high point of the opening  was the evening celebrations. A lighting show and wonderful performances of the artists and students staged in the Central Plaza. This set the tone for a wonderful EXPO.At the same time, several thematic summits were held at the main venue, WIEE Smart Domeand leaders from around the world and from all walks of life shared the latest innovative practice and thinking.


On May 19th, WIEE Future Trend Summit explored how maximize the use of new technology to both evolve and harmoniously coexist within the new world.


On May 20th, Tongji, MIT City Science Summit 2018 explored the service platform built on the smart city, the joint creative city architecture, and the future of human beings.


On May 21st, the Future Education Summit contemplated what education should be given to future generations. Particular emphasis was given to an analysis in relation to  the new wave of science and technology.


On May 22nd, the City Art Forum explored how space art can grow and how it affects our lives in the contemporary urban environment.


On May 26th,the IFI World Interior Design Dayand NICE 2035 "Future Life" Design Forum were held at D&I.


During the Expo, Tongji University will jointly hold a series of activities withSlush, MakerFaire, China-U.S. Young Maker Competition, Cross-Strait Youth Maker Competition, Shanghai Maker, the STEAM education international summit,Zaojiu, and Shanghai Youth Creativity into the Community.


One of the most important achievements of the first WIEE was that its partners (Chinese and foreign cities, enterprises, universities and organizations) jointly issued World Innovation and Entrepreneurship Manifesto ( Shanghai Manifesto).


The Manifesto believes that innovation and entrepreneurship should be the means to seamless collaboration among companies, universities, cities and organizations to share the most up-to-date technologies, ideas, models, cases, best practices, policies, markets and environments to explore sustainable, creative, and inclusive ways of growth and build a global collaborative community for innovation and entrepreneurship.


Wu Zhiqiang, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, vice president of Tongji University and the general director of the WIEE,stated that the creation of a seamless interaction between enterprises, universities, cities and organizations through innovation and entrepreneurship is a bold vision for the "future campus" of Tongji University. The fair will give full play to the "two wheel drive" mechanism of "innovation and entrepreneurship", "universities and cities", and will create an innovative ecosystem and a "converter" for the interactive solution of realistic problems.
