PERMUTATION DESIGN LAB

The permutation design lab at the College of Design and Innovation at Tongji University investigates, develops, and applies the use of permutations in design. The lab's main objective is to automate different process of design using computational permutation schemes. There are three parallel directions to the lab: 


- Mathematical and computational theory of permutations: what are permutations, why are  they useful in the design process, how do we create them mathematically, and how do we deal with exponential growth.


- Software research and development: how to create efficient algorithms that can solve design puzzles in the most structured, fast, and optimized way using new advances in software and hardware technology.


- Practical applications and implementations: what are the possible applications of permutations in design process, either as a support platform for design related companies or as an engine for start up ventures.


Applied areas of permutations are: fashion, industrial/service design, architecture, music, art, story telling, gaming, typography, or cooking.
