Specialties:

[1] He is good at leading and organizing a design team, creating forward-looking auto styling concepts and developing three-dimensional solid models, with 20 years’ international experience in passenger car styling and development. He is familiar with European, American and Japanese auto companies’ product planning and styling development systems, peripheral supporting design systems and styling decision-making process.

[2] He participated in the preliminary styling strategy development of international auto model joint-development projects for many times, knowing well about the difference in user value between the domestic market and the international market and good at formulating, developing and implementing the positioning of design strategies for the visual characteristics of regional market brands.

[3] He is closely related to the global auto design industry and education industry, with good connections as well as an important professional status. He once worked as a China-based styling consultant in Toyota Motor and Hyundai Motor. He has been invited to make professional presentations at the international auto design summit for many times. He once served as a judge for many international top auto design competitions. He also held the position of main writer in the styling column of MSN Auto Channel in China.

[4] He is committed to improving the level of domestic auto design industry. He launched “China Car Design International Summit” in Nanjing in 2007 and organized a group of international top auto designers to hold a “senior designer training workshop for the styling teams of domestic major independent brands. The summit was strongly sponsored and supported by Jiangsu and international styling industries and has been scheduled as an annual conference. Since 2010, it has been moved to Shanghai, where it was co-organized by Shanghai Anting International Automobile City and Tongji University. By now it has been held for 11 times, becoming a top annual international auto design summit in China.

[5] He has devoted himself to the construction of auto styling and design education in domestic universities from scratch for many years. In combination with the sponsorship and support by international professional resources and industry-university cooperation, highly competitive auto design talent training courses have been set in Tongji University, Nanjing University of the Arts, and Nanjing University of Science and Technology. All graduates can work as creative designers in mainstream auto companies at home and abroad.

 

Work Experience:

In 1986, he become a U.S. citizen and received complete professional international auto design education. He graduated from the Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, CA with honors, where he majored in Auto Styling and earned the degree of Bachelor of Science.

From 1989 to 2000, he worked as Chief Designer in CALTY Design Research Inc.

In 2003, he moved to Shanghai, where he devoted himself to Chinese market’s auto research and development

In 2006, he was employed as Design Director by Nanjing Automobile Group

In 2007, he was selected as an introduced high-level innovation and entrepreneurship talent in Jiangsu Province

In 2008, he was employed as a foreign professor by Nanjing University of Science and Technology and Nanjing University of the Arts

In 2010, he was employed as a foreign professor and master supervisor by the School of Automotive Studies, Tongji University

In 2013, he was employed as Styling and Product Planning Director by GAC Toyota

In 2015, he was employed as Passenger Car and Venucia Design Director by Dongfeng Nissan

In 2017, he was employed as Auto Design Industry Promotion Director by Shanghai International Automobile City

 

Professional Experience:

[1] Nov. 2017-present: working as Auto Design Industry Promotion and Professional Training Director in Shanghai International Automobile City Development Service Co., Ltd. on a full-time basis. He planned and organized “China Car Design International Summit (CCDIS)” and corresponding promotion activities, including the industry training business of “China Automotive Industry Training Base (AIT).

[2] 2013-2017: worked as Styling Director and Product Planning Director in a Maine Engine Plat of an automobile manufacturer. In 2015, he worked in Dongfeng Nissan, responsible for the styling design and brand DNA planning of all “Venucia” products, including T70 SUV, T90 Sport SUV and D60 family sedan. In 2013, he worked in GAC Toyota, responsible for the product planning of GAC Toyota’s self-owned brand “Lexus”, the concept of pure electric vehicle i1 and the styling of the mass production version.

[3] 2008-2013: engaged in auto design education in domestic colleges & universities. He established an auto design program and served as a professor of automobile styling. He once worked in the School of Automotive Studies, Tongji University, Nanjing University of the Arts, and Nanjing University of Science and Technology.

[4] 2006-2008: worked as Design Director in Nanjing Automobile Group, responsible for building and improving the existing styling team as well as planning and styling of all products of Nanjing Automobile Group. In 2007, he was rated “an introduced high-end innovation and entrepreneurship talent in Jiangsu Province”. In 2008, he was responsible for implementing an industry-university cooperation project and served as a specially-appointed professor of the Auto Design Program of Nanjing University of the Arts.

[5] 2000-2006: worked in Opus Industrial Design Group in California, USA, responsible for providing avant-garde vehicle concepts and styling services for international customers. In 2003, he was dispatched to Shanghai to provide international clients with consulting services related to the trends and styling in the Chinese auto market, build a design team for domestic clients, plan an avant-garde styling system, and lead design development and design education and training and other services.

[6] 1990-2000: worked as Chief Designer in CALTY Design Research Inc., where he participated in the development and planning of all Toyota and Lexus North American models, created and executed design concepts, led design teams, implemented planning projects, and participated in the “Toyota Global Range Design Review Committee”.

[7] 1986-1990: graduated from the Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, CA with honors, where he majored in Auto Styling and earned the degree of Bachelor of Science. He won a number of scholarships, including GM Scholarship, Chrysler Scholarship and Toyota Scholarship during the period. He worked as an intern in Toyota in Southern California and Chrysler Avant-Garde Styling Center.

[8] 1983-1986: worked as an industrial designer in the Mechanical Industry Research Institute of Taiwan Industrial Technology Research Institute, where he participated in the plan for the styling, research and development of Taiwan’s first self-developed motorcycle as a specific designer.

[9] 1977-1981: Graduated from the Department of Industrial Design, National Cheng Kung University, Tainan, Taiwan with a bachelor’s degree in engineering.
