Alastair Fuad-Luke is the Professor of Emerging Design Practices at Aalto University in Finland. Working as sustainable design consultant, facilitator, educator, writer and activist, Prof. Fuad-Luke is good at applying emerging design practices (design activism, co-design, participatory design, open design, eco-design) to achieve positive societal impact. Prof. Fuad-Luke has been engaged in applying and facilitating design thinking, sustainability thinking, and related practice in academia and industry circles (2000s to present day). He worked in media industry in the 1990s and in his own landscape design & build company in the 1980s. Prof. Fuad-Luke is well known as a writer who actively promotes design thinking, research and practice to encourage transition to more sustainable ways of living. Prof. Fuad-Luke’s books include Design Activism, The Eco-design Handbook, The Eco-Travel Handbook, and Agents of Alternatives: Re-designing Our Realities. His aim is to lever positive changes for sustainability transition by applying design to experiment with new ideas of enterprise, socially-driven innovation, and the development of alternative economies for our commons.
