The 2024 World Design Cities Conference (WDCC 2024), themed Design Beyond Boundaries, Growth of New Qualities, kicked off at the Urban Best Practice Area of the World Expo Museum in Shanghai on September 27. SHEN Haixiong, Vice Minister of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee and Head of China Media Group, and GONG Zheng, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee and Mayor of Shanghai, delivered speeches at the event.
XIONG Jijun, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, gave remarks, while QU Xing, UNESCO Deputy Director-General, delivered a video address. London’s Deputy Mayor Justine Simons congratulated the opening, and ZHENG Qinghua, President of Tongji University, attended the event.
For the third time, Tongji University served as a key co-organizer of the conference, providing critical academic support. LOU Yongqi, Vice President of Tongji University, was invited to serve as the Creative Director of the conference, overseeing the educational vision and creative presentation, including the planning of the main exhibition, thematic exhibitions, opening ceremony, and a series of forums. He was also responsible for drafting the 2024 Shanghai Declaration of World Design Cities. Tongji faculty and students were deeply involved, being accountable for organizing forums and exhibitions, and supporting creative design across various aspects of the event.
