Tongji Professor's Work Selected in the 14th National Exhibition of Fine Arts
September 27, the “Selected Works Exhibition of the 14th National Exhibition of Fine Arts in Beijing” was launched at the National Art Museum of China. “MeshRare DN B1”, a piece of representative work of Professor Zhang Zhoujie at College of Design and Innovation, Tongji University was selected for display in the exhibition, which was one of only 12 exhibited in Beijing in the industrial design category nationwide.

The 14th National Exhibition of Fine Arts was co-hosted by Ministry of Culture and Tourismof the People's Republic of China, China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, and China Artists Association. The five-yearly exhibition is the largest, most widely participated, most influential and authoritative national comprehensive art exhibition in China, and attracts a lot of attention from the art circle.
MeshRare, which was mainly created by independent designer and digital artist Zhang Zhoujie, was officially launched in November 6, 2022. It is an experimental project developed in the context of Web 3.0, where the form and the matter of the chairs adapt, mutate, or undergo natural selection in an endlessly generated cluster. MeshRare emphasizes the spreading of technical individuals among the masses, where objects gain individuality and distinct characteristics in the process of self-expression. Based on the bio-derivative cycle of each chair, it pursues the vitality of inherent uniqueness in an associated milieu. MeshRare breaks the boundaries between reality and imagination, bridging the gap between the unreal and the real through the observation, research, and application of digital technology.
Zhang Zhoujie graduated from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London. Since he established Zhang Zhoujie Digital Lab, Zhang has become a pioneer in the realm of digital creativity, his work is known for being independent, experimental and futuristic. Zhang joined Tongji University in 2018.
It is reported that the exhibition will be on display until 24 October.
