On December 13, 2016, a forum on Design Management and Innovation Strategy was held in D&I. The theme of this forum is Innovation Drives Made-in-China. Design Management and Innovation Strategy Lab (DMIS) announced its establishment on the forum.

An appointing ceremony of the global consulting committee members was also held at the forum. 

Chief of DMIS, LIU Wei pointed out that the establishment of DMIS and appointment of the consulting committee will yield world-class research achievements and will help to establish world renowned Design management and innovation research base. It will also provide theory support for the innovation strategy of the nation, industry and enterprises. It will further the cooperation between academia and industry, China and other countries. It will provide suggestions to major decisions and practice by bring into full play the pool in ideas, data, and talents. DMIS will eventually serve the development of China and contribute to international research.
