Mary Polites teaches studios, lectures and seminars related to biomimicryand environmental design at the Tongji Shanghai Design and Innovation College.Her background is in architecture with professional experience in architecture,urban design and landscapes. She completed her postgraduate master ofarchitecture at the Architectural Association in Londonin Emergent Technologiesand Design program (EMTECH) and has a Bachelor’sdegree in Architecture from NewJersey Institute of Technology (NJIT). She has taught at Washington StateUniversity under the Weller teaching and research fellowship and currently is atutor for units at the Architectural Association Visiting Schools in Shanghai.
At the D&I she also co-directs the BiDL (BiomimeticDesign Lab) inleading projects and research with a focus of biomimetic design in the contextof Shanghai. The focus of the research is on integration of relationships foundin nature into design, to provide contextualized and systemic solutions.
