10 projects have been already selected and will be implanted in the Lyon Perrache multimodal transport hub. This design intervention call will be echoing Saint Etienne Design Biennale edition, China being the 2019 host country.

LOCATION

LYON CITY DEMAIN 2019 will be held in the Perrache district of Lyon, which extends from la place des Archives to la place Carnot which are linked by the extremely complex Lyon Perrache multimodal transport hub. This urban intersection is where the city’s many different modes of transport, pedestrians, trams, trains, cycle paths, underground trains and even the motorway, crossover each other.

PROJECT

Tongji University College of Design and Innovation and China Academic of Art are the two design and art schools are invited as foreign academic partners. The on site project will be presented in Lyon Perrache multimodal transport hub, the two teams will ask to develop a design intervention in the site while working inside a former “info point”. The design proposal will arise from the situation. This experimental context can be disruptive, creative, and innovative or enhance social practices and behaviours. It can be related to the following aspects: mobility, local context, user experience, social innovation, oral histories, interrelations, ecosystems etc. Each proposal has to be low cost and built with simple tools. It must be an ongoing process interacting with public.

The design intervention will bring the northern and southern parts of the Presqu’Ile back together, the latter opening onto the Confluence district of the city and making it easier for users to gain access to the public transport solutions found there.

Each project must correspond to one or more of the following three themes and be able to be incorporated within the Perrache district renovation project: Temporality, Resilience, Fluidity.

- These projects should be based on making the most of the time we spend there and should not be seen as a daily constraint.

- All projects should illustrate the city’s ability to reinvent itself and show that its urban spaces have an ability to bounce back.

- The projects put forward for consideration should reach beyond current use (epicentre, north and southentrance etc.) and offer uses that create links and facilitate fluidity between the spaces.
