The environment is inseparably conflated with the world constructed by humanity. This recognizes that not only has the scope of human activity reached a point at which it has the capacity to fundamentally alter the geophysical processes of the planet, but also that the environment itself is a human construction rather than an apriori condition. So, the environment is both a space and a representation: it situates humans within a world, and defines the manner in which that world is understood, experienced, and engaged. This makes the environment a fundamentally design issue.

By bringing together practitioners and academics the research seminar is structured as a think tank group with the aim to discussing and proposing visions on the topic “Environmental Futures: design and green technologies”. The seminar will explore the role that design can have in promoting new environmental futures, it will be built across a multidisciplinary approach, which a full range of disciplines, practices and professions providing a trans-scalar design vision that represent crucial properties of Environmental design approach. The research seminar is oriented to focusing on problem-oriented and transdisciplinary research ‘scenarios’ that link design, art, science and culture (ethnography). In the new "Age of Entanglement" in which knowledge can no longer be ascribed to, or produced within, disciplinary boundaries, the research seminar will host 3 + 2 sections as follows:

3 research matters:

- Art & Environment

- Science & Environment (Environmental Entanglement)

- Culture/ Ethnography & Environment (Environmental Anthropology)

2 design scenarios:

- Climate Change & Environment

- City & Environment (Environmental threat - Nature-base design)
