“The Red Stairs” Project from D&I Won the 2018 SEGD Global Design Awards and 2018 Sylvia Harris award

Winning projects in the 2018 SEGD Global Design Awards were announced on June 9 at the 2018 SEGD Conference Experience Minneapolis. 10 Honor Awards and 27 Merit Awards—spanning the full spectrum of experiential graphic design, from wayfinding to placemaking and identity, public installations, exhibitions and research projects—were chosen from among 338 submissions of experiential graphic design projects from around the world. “The Red Stairs” project from D&I won the 2018 SEGD Global Design Awards and 2018 Sylvia Harris award.

Sylvia Harris(1953-2011) award was recognized for an unerring commitment to using design to improve the civic experience and for influencing a generation of designers as a teacher and mentor. The 2018 Sylvia Harris award was awarded to a residential way finding system called “The Red Stairs” supervised by Ms. NI Minqing and developed by Zhang Yaqi (graphics teaching assistant), Huang Shengyu (visual coordinator), Shierly Veronica (designer), Lv Xin (designer) and Guo Jia(designer)at D&I. The project was part of an ongoing research and design initiative, “Open Your Space,” which explores how design intervention collectively shapes the public realm.
