Exhibitions| Design Work of D&I Faculty and Students Went on Exhibition in Beijing MOI Helsinki Design Week

On May 12, the Biofore Tea House, jointly designed by faculty and students of College of Design and Innovation, Tongji University (D&I), went on exhibition in Beijing MOI Helsinki design week.

The Biofore Tea house sought inspiration from the pattern of craquelure on porcelains.

It was not only a tea house, but also a place for meditation and contemplation.

SHEN Jingliang, delegate of the D&I design group, deemed that apart from their physical functions, traditional Chinese design works embodied further spiritual concerns.

For decoration of the Tea House, Prof. CHEN Yongqun from D&I specially chose traditional Chinese folk furniture to add to the antiquity of the house. The Biofore Tea House was in collaboration with UPM (a Finnish forest industry company).

UPM provided environment-friendly materials for construction of the Tea House.

For instance, the heat-bending craquelure wall of the Tea House was made of GRADA, a thermoplastic plywood recently developed by UPM.
